The Rising Son Retreat

Some things do not happen over a screen.

September 17 to 20, 2026 · Fish Haven, Idaho

From the men who went

The stories they came back with.

Brannon and Tyler spent an episode telling stories from past retreats. It is the closest thing to being there without being there.

Who comes to this

The men in that cabin are not who you would expect.

Most of them are married. Most have kids. Most have work where people rely on them and would never guess what they carry.

They arrive having done something they are not proud of, or having spent years managing something quietly, or having reached a point where the life they built stopped feeling like theirs.

What almost all of them have in common is that they have never said the whole thing out loud to another man.

By the time they leave, that is no longer true for any of them.

What actually happens

We are not going to tell you everything.

Part of why this works is that you do not know what is coming. Men who have been will tell you that the moments that changed things for them were not on any schedule they were handed.

Here is what we will tell you.

You will be outdoors and you will be moving. There is physical work and there is sitting still, and both are harder than they sound. There are sessions led by Brannon and Tyler, and there are long stretches with nothing scheduled at all, which is usually when a man finally says the thing he has been carrying.

About thirty men, no phone in your hand, and nowhere else to be until Sunday.

Everything is handled

You show up. We have the rest.

From the moment you land in Salt Lake City to the moment you fly home, you are not organising anything. A private chef cooks on site. There is a bed with your name on it. There is a van waiting at the airport.

The only thing you have to bring is yourself, and for most men that is the hard part.

Where you sleep

A bed in a large cabin a short walk from Bear Lake. Bunk style, which sounds worse than it is and is part of why men leave knowing each other.

Every meal

A private chef cooks on site for the length of the retreat, from heavy to light, plus snacks and drinks during activities and a midnight cereal bar that is not a joke. Tell us about allergies and restrictions when you register and they are handled.

Airport shuttle

A passenger van runs between Salt Lake City airport and Bear Lake. It picks up several men at set times, so your flights need to line up with the shuttle schedule rather than the other way around. Book your flights, then tell us the times and we will confirm your seat.

Getting around

Transport during the retreat is covered. You will not need a car once you are there.

The programming

Sessions, sequencing and experiences built and rebuilt over fifteen retreats since 2016.

The men

Around thirty of them, most of whom you have never met. By the second day that stops being the point.

LLuc2018 Bear Lake Attendee

Great job! Changed my life for the best and reaffirmed past feelings. Plus made me be ok and love me. As a man, husband, father, gamer, what I enjoy, etc. It makes me want to be more who I am in each of those to be the best I can be and put off examples of being a real man in each of those areas is possible without needing to be a societal norm. :)

MMichael2024 Bear Lake Attendee

It was a week of epic masculinity. Brutal and breathtaking.

CCarl2018 Alaska

I was not disappointed in anything. The staff were great - easy to talk to and very encouraging. The material was spot on for me. The activities expanded my soul in unexpected and wonderful ways. I was thoroughly wiped out at the end of each day. The two Bros. were down to earth and available to talk to.

SSteve2022 Bear Lake Attendee

I love you guys and love what you are bringing to the world.

We asked them afterwards

How has this changed you?

Men answering that question in their own words, on the last day, before they went home.

Where it happens

Bear Lake, in the middle of the Rockies.

The retreat is held at a large cabin in Fish Haven, Idaho, on the shore of Bear Lake. In September the leaves turn, the mornings are cold and the afternoons are warm and clear. Rain passes through occasionally and it is worth being outside for.

Fish Haven is about two and a half hours from Salt Lake City airport. Send us your flight times and we will put you on the shuttle.

Starts: Thursday, September 17 at 6pm MDT

Ends: Sunday, September 20 at 10am MDT

Something you should know up front

This retreat has a spiritual dimension.

The Rising Son Journey does not. Nobody in a weekly group will ever ask you what you believe.

The retreat is different, and you should know that before you book a flight. The language and the themes at Bear Lake include God and a higher power. That is how this retreat has been built since 2016 and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

You do not have to share any of it. Men who believe nothing at all have come and taken as much from it as anyone, and nobody is asked to agree with a single thing.

But if that is a dealbreaker for you, better to know it now than on the first evening.

If you can hike up to five miles in a day, you can do everything here without a problem. There is walking, time outdoors and physical work, and some of it is genuinely demanding. If you are unsure whether something will be an issue, email us before you register and we will walk through the activities with you.

Then you do not talk. Nobody is put on the spot and nobody is made an example of. Most men find that what they wanted to say comes out on its own, usually somewhere they did not expect.

No. Brannon and Tyler are licensed clinicians and have run these retreats since 2016. What happens here is coaching and peer support, not therapy or mental health treatment.

Yes. The retreat is spiritually oriented and the language includes God and a higher power. You are not asked to believe anything or to participate in anything you do not want to. Men of every belief and men of none have come through it. The weekly Journey groups are a separate thing and carry none of this.

A full packing list goes out after you register. The short version is hiking shoes, outdoor clothes you do not mind ruining, layers for cold mornings and warm afternoons, a headlamp, swimwear, a towel, a daypack and a water bottle. Nothing unusual and nothing you need to buy new.

Phones go away for the retreat. If someone needs to reach you in an emergency, we give your people a number that reaches us.

Yes. Full refund up to a week before, no questions asked, and full refund right up to the start of the event if something outside your control comes up.

Fly into Salt Lake City, send us your flight times, and we will put you on the shuttle. Driving is about two and a half hours from the airport.

Yes. The retreat is for men eighteen and over.

Yes. A photographer and videographer document the retreat, and every man signs a release before attending. If you have concerns about being photographed, email us before you register and we will talk it through.

A signed agreement and an emergency contact are required before the retreat. You cannot attend without them. Both come to you by email after you register, and neither takes long.

Fifteen retreats since 2016. This is the next one.

September 17 to 20, in Fish Haven, Idaho.

About thirty men will be there. Some of them booked the moment they read this page.
